Barbara Flügel

Barbara Flügel was born in 1992 in the eastern part of Berlin and spent a wild but carefree childhood as the little sister of three older brothers. After graduating from high school, she studied Film and Television Directing at Mittweida University of Applied Sciences. During that time, she worked as a student trainee at a local TV station and a production assistant at the film production company Chestnut Films for producers Philip Voges and Ilja Haller. Afterwards, she worked as a project manager and producer in advertising, overseeing campaigns for various companies as well as the development of commercials. In 2016, she began studying Media Information Technology and Design in Heidelberg before taking a position as a Junior Producer in Animation and Visual Effects at the production company Sehsucht in Berlin a year later.

During her studies in the master program in Film and Television Production at the Film University Babelsberg KONRAD WOLF, a dramaturgical emphasis enabled her to focus on the content development of films and series. She also realized several film projects as a producer, production manager and VFX producer, including the stop-motion short film Laika & Nemo, which won a Student Academy Award in the animation category in 2022. Since her studies, which she successfully completed in the same year, Barbara has been leading a story development format as a guest lecturer at the Film University in Babelsberg and works as a freelance editor for ZDF, one of the biggest broadcasters in the country, and other production companies. As a writer, she and her partner Liza Reichardt specialize in the creation of film and series concepts with a particular focus on historical, psychologically complex, and magical-realistic themes.
