Mareike Almedom

Mareike was born in Berlin and lives in her home town – being an author and a mother, playing drums and loving to cook and go dancing. One would notice her long, bright green fingernails and that she can make you laugh.

Once she hitchhiked through Central America rather than finishing High School. Back home she became an operation nurse. She ran a café bar and wrote poems and a novel. Then she studied screenplay writing and dramaturgy at the Filmuniversity Babelsberg Konrad Wolf (BA 2018).

Who she was and is certainly influences her perspective on our world. But as an author it´s not that important to her. What matters to her is who she wants to be…

She wants to be a 13 year old girl whose desires are greater than life. She wants to be a family man who, through a brief encounter, completely questions his previous goals and needs. She wants to be a grandmother who is loved but no longer needed and who is preparing to give up her place in the world again. She wants  to have to react to looks because of her dark skin color, she wants to cling  angrily to her fixed habits, she wants to live as a woman although biologically she is a man, she wants to be on the run, she wants to be addicted to online dating matches, she wants to choke herself in secret, she wants to be active in climate protection out of full conviction and she wants to drive an inappropriately fat, shiny car.

She wants to give all these people and many others a place in her stories and thereby create a common ground, because her goal is, that we become more interested in each other, look and listen openly and in the best case even try a smile.
